At Micheldever we aim to offer a wide variety of learning experiences for our children allowing them to explore and engage with the world around them. The children are encouraged to become inquisitive; asking questions that spark enthusiasm and excitement. We provide all of our children with opportunities for real investigations that offer new learning and understanding, often igniting new questions to be answered when looking carefully at patterns and change explored. The children are encouraged to record their practical learning and thinking in a variety of ways often including drawings, verbal or written explanations.
The teaching of science takes place through carefully planned activities following the Hampshire Key Ideas documentation which extends the National Curriculum objectives into more practical outcomes. Year 1 and Year 2 learn discretely in their year groups, exploring outdoor environmental studies as well as practical indoor experiments. Year 3 & Year 4 are taught together, as are Year 5 & Year 6 where they are encouraged to build on prior learning in more depth, relating their experiences to the wider world in practical ways. We aim to awe and wonder in all our science learning to engage our pupils and awaken their curiosity.
We believe that IT and Computing skills are fundamental in our children's learning. We offer a range of opportunities for our children to explore and investigate using technology to track, record and analyse their findings including use of I-pad apps and data loggers. We ensure technology is offered is appropriate to the needs of our learners to enable them to develop their ideas further.
